The perfect grilled cheese sandwich

Hey Reader,

One of my favorite made-up-national-food-holiday is quickly approaching -

April 12th (tomorrow) is National Grilled Cheese Day!

Besides being one of the first things I learned to cook as a kid, this classic can be adjusted and customized in so many ways. If you enjoy cheese, it's pretty hard to hate a grilled cheese at any time of the day.

Here are a few of my favorite bread and cheese combinations:

Combo #1: My favorite (for right now at least)

  • Bread: Sourdough bread
  • Cheese(s): Pepperjack, mozzarella + muenster cheese
  • What else? Pesto is always a great addition to grilled cheese

Combo #2: Nostalgic grilled cheese

  • Bread: Your favorite white bread
  • Cheese(s): American cheese
  • What else? A couple slices of your favorite bacon

Combo #3: Something different

  • Bread: Thick-sliced brioche bread
  • Cheese(s): Smoked gouda, cheddar, Monterey jack
  • What else? Sliced green or yellow apples

When it comes to grilled cheeses, this barely scratches the surface. There are too many combinations to name, but I hope I've at least given you a little inspiration for your next grilled cheese.

As always, I'd love to see what you come up with!

Until next time,

-Lena B.

And that's because it's kinda a scone. I wanted to make something green and something involving pistachios this month and, in my opinion, scones and biscuits are too similar for me to not bring this idea to life. ** Fun Fact (aka something I learned in the midst of this recipe development) ** The only difference between biscuit and...

Just wanted to pop in and share last month's Biscuit of the Month and give a preview of what's going on my kitchen in February. Biscuit of the Month I've been making biscuits for a while now, but haven't done a very good job of documenting the biscuit sandwiches that I've made and dozens more ideas that I have yet to make happen. That ends now....

And now, more than ever, I think it's important to do a couple of things: (1) Find joy; and (2) Connect to share that joy So, I'm getting over the urge to do less (because life can be a *lot*) and I've reminded myself that cooking and sharing on the blog are me doing my part in finding and sharing joy. I wrote a little more about that...
